Dallas Snow by Scott English

I’m no longer surprised by the weather in Dallas, Texas. Initially, upon arrival to this state it was nothing but sweltering heat, for a couple of years. I could deal with that. Melbourne, Victoria was a close approximation, from my homeland. Except that in Melbourne you could count on the crunch of ice under your feet in winter. That didn’t seem to happen, in Dallas, except for a couple of days at the peak of winter.

This year has a weird air about it and seems to be acting appropriately so - it snows one day, then is god gorgeously beautiful a couple of days later, only to about face and chill you to the bone the next.

Above is a picture of the chillier side of the equation.

It’s like a student ill prepared for an exam, and not knowing what it’s doing, picks a random answer for each successive multiple choice question. Which certainly makes it interesting when I wake up each day and peer outside the window to see what’s going on, though I’d prefer a nice breezy summer’s warmth over a random interesting day given the option. Nice hammock weather, mmm, yes please.

Weather aside I am far from happy with the results of the picture above. I think it fails pretty aptly at capturing the strange nature of experiencing snow in the middle of this randomly oscillating Dallas, Texas winter.

Ah well, perhaps next time.

I, personally, would welcome weather as it was in Woomera, which means no snow, ever.

I moved to Texas to get away from this crap. :)

Pictures never capture the beauty of falling snow.

I like warm weather, I like cool weather. I just dont like extreme weather. And I dont like feeling soggy. hehehehe

Lisa: Can’t say that I have ever been to Woomera, but yeah, I doubt a single flake of snow has fallen there in recent memory. Mmmm, no snow…

Kelly: I’d like to one day be able to get a good snow picture… while I am visiting somewhere that I am not living ;) And yes, soggy is rarely good.

To get a good snow picture, you probably have to try a timed exposure so the shutter stays open long enough to track the flakes. I tried taking pictures, too and just erased them because you couldn’t see the snow. I like the weather as long as the temp doesn’t get over 78. You can always put on more clothes and get warm, but like I always say, once you are nude and still hot, what do you do then.

I’m not sure that my current camera has a time exposure on it, or if it does, I am not sure how to use it (obviously).

I prefer not to put clothes upon clothes upon clothes on. Thats just silly. And besides, once you are nude things tend to get hot anyways, so that’s not such a big deal.

Ugh. That’s not the sort of thing I should be saying in reply to a comment made by my mother-in-law. I think I need to go pray or something!
