The Vampire Myth has done a great amount of solidifying thanks to the swarm of Vampire Fiction flooding the market in recent times (I put the blame pretty squarely on Ann Rice). Unfortunately, the Cyclops Myth has gotten very little air play outside of ancient Sinbad tales. But, hey, if you’re going to allow bloodsuckers, then why not let in the occasional one-eyed chap as well?
Given then that you have both wandering around, undoubtedly causing mischief, it seems to me that its only a matter of time before you have a Vampiric Cyclops. Or is that a Cyclopean Vampire?
Notice it only has one fang?
I think the popularity of vampire fiction escalated with the writing of Laurell K. Hamilton, (which unfortunately has gone downhill) and Sherrilyn Kenyon. When the editors saw how those books sold, they all had their authors jump on the bandwagon. I think it’s a “for-profit” deal. lol
I’m in the market for a cyclopean vampire book as long as he’s hot.
Definitely a for profit deal I reckon. Which is a shame because now the genre has been completely tapped out and it appears they’ll keep trying to get blood from a stone as long as the profits keep coming in. We can only hope that the stone blunts a few fangs.
A novel about a hot one-eyed monster seems like it would be right up Laurell K. Hamilton’s alley.
I can’t believe all the inuendos in that last line. Nor can I believe that I typed them in response to a comment from my mother-in-law. I am ashamed!
I keep looking for the authors who come up with a new slant. There are a few good ones who add a dash of humor or just have a good style. I’m still having fun with the whole genre.
Maybe they do need to shove a cyclops or two in there. I imagine that they would have a novel view on things. Get it. Novel view. One eye… novel view… hawww I crack myself up sometimes.
