Downloaded the single player pre-release demo of Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare and have played it several times over the past 24 hours. Damn, I should not have done that. Now, I completely desire the game. It looks beautiful, in fact its stunning. The action is relentless. The combat is realistically scary and sometimes makes me forget that I am in the comfort of my office chair. An amazing game. I must have this at some point. MUST.

Some screen captures of me in the thick of battle:

There is a disabled Abrams tank being attacked but enemy forces, your squad is sent to provide support until attack choppers can arrive… but first you have to make your way through the city where your unit is currently located to reach the tank - and time is of the essence because the tank squad is fighting for their lives.

Pinned down, trying to make your way through buildings:

Here’s the a view through the scope of a sniper rifle:

The final battle in the demo reminds me a great deal of scenes in the movie Black Hawk Down. There’s what feels like a over whelming force of enemies, armed with RPGs, AKs and mounted machine guns just drooling at the thought of taking out the tank that you are sent to support.

Amazingly, Call of Duty 4 captures not only intense action, but also incorporates a lot of emotional situations for you to endure. I am thoroughly impressed, even with this tiny glimpse of it.

You can find out more at the Call of Duty 4 website, where you can also find the demo to download. Its on shelves now, so you can also just go out and buy it.

This is the kind of game that would totally catch my attention at the store. I’ll be walking by, minding my own business, when out of the corner of my eye I’ll notice 4 or 5 punk kids, crowded around a single punk kid playing a game on a demo machine. I’ll walk over, and instantly be mesmerized by the beautiful new release on the machine in front of me. Gorgeous graphics, realistic gameplay. I’ll oooh and aaah with the rest of them and think “wow, what a game”. I’ll envision myself as a Nazi/Japanese/alien/insurgent killing machine. I’m invincible and stealthy and brave. The only problem? I really suck at games like this. I usually end up the grease stain smeared about 5 feet from the starting point. Which means, if I’m playing with a group of other people, I generally have to lay there until the mission is over or the game takes pity on me (depending on the spawning rules).

I got this for the 360 this week. It’s insanely cool. I haven’t bought video games in a while, but with Mass Effect, Assassin’s Creed, and CoD4 all being released.. I might be hurtin’ for change.

Kelly (crickie): I am not sure how I should take your reference to punk kids playing the game ;) But yes, it is a familiar visual.

Believe me the graphics are as gorgeous and the gameplay is as realistic as you might imagine it to be. In some parts of the game, dust is floating through the air. In the bombed out cities, there is trash all over the streets… just a lot of attention to detail.

The cool thing about Call of Duty 4 is that except for Search and Destroy maps (I think) in the multiplayer version, you get to respawn instantly - well you have the option of watching the last 5 seconds leading up to your death from your killer’s point of view - which can often be very educational ;) So the kick spawn times allow you to quickly make another attempt at getting a foot for some further before becoming a grease stain.

BTW, you are quite the fortune teller. I did indeed get Call of Duty 4 for my birthday - and hence have been fairly non-productive since then. Would you mind fortune telling the numbers from a big lotto drawing for me next?

Rich | Championable: Duuuude. I got it for my birthday and it totally rocks. Definitely the best FPS that I have ever played. The SinglePlayer is damn cool, and the MultiPlayer rocks! I can get enough of it!

I’ll have to check out Mass Effect and Assassin’s Creed… after all, Christmas is right around the corner ;)

I hate that they’re not releasing it for the PS2. LittleBrother’s been playing this since the first one but I don’t know that I’m ready to get a whole new system yet.
